OK I have to brag, had a friend at Dell give me a 17% off discount when I ordered my computer system. Then he emails me a 30% off coupon for a printer and asked if I needed one. Wasn't planning on getting a printer, but with that discount I had to see what was available. When I saw the 30% was ADDED to the 17% system discount I had to jump on it. Bottomline it cost me $380! LOL
It's pretty new but I managed to find one review to make sure it was good before I bought it. Am I Glad I did. Just found another review at MacWorld that placed it second to the $800 Xerox, basically because the Xerox is more quiet.
Even at the regular price of $650 it's a great buy. Manufacturers are notorious for BS on their print speeds, but this thing smokes! It's very close to the 23 ppm advertised speed, but what's really amazing is how quick it spits out the first page.
The important part, flash and features aside, the print quality on black and white text is amazing, incredibly sharp. The color is good, but on some photos I think the output needs to be calibrated, makes some images a little reddish.
Love most of the features, it's nice to be able to scan pages right to your computer as a pdf file to easily email.
The ONLY donwside I have with this computer which was a disappointment is that I couldn't set it up to email a scanned image directly from the printer. For some dumb reason the software to set it up to email docs asks for the primary smtp gateway address, but only accepts a numerical address instead of textual(like you would enter with outlook) so bottomline I spoke with 4 different Dell techs and none of them could make it so it could email via my qwest account's smtp server. So that is a feature I would have liked, but unless Dell comes up with a fix I won't be able to. That being said I can scan to my computer and then attach doc to email, but an unnecessary extra step.
As for noise, it's a little loud when in action, but I think that's typical for color lasers and not any louder than some HP's I have tested in stores.
Copy speeds are great and images are very close to originals. Scanned images look great as well.
If you are tired of slow and expensive to use color ink jet mfp's, take the step up to laser with this great offering by Dell, you won't be disappointed!

HP Color LaserJet 4550 Printer Review

I printed a lot of photos with my old 895cse printer, and they looked great, but the ink could smear and it took forever. I recently bought this printer, and it is fantastic, clean and crisp prints... and full color in the same time it takes to print a text page, about 20 seconds. And you don't have to replace the cartridge every other week, so far it's been 3 months and I haven't changed the toner yet. I say if you can afford this now, it will pay off in the long run.

Xerox WorkCentre M20I Multifunction Printer Review

I bought this machine about 1 month ago for my home office. I print contracts, send/recieve many FAXes, require legal size paper handling and needed a good copier that can handle 40-60 pages in the auto-feed tray. I also wanted two paper trays that could hold a lot of paper. I tried one of the lower end HP (7100?something) and it was .. let's just say a bad experience.
In a nutshell, this multi feature product seems to work well for what I need. If you run a home business, put it away from you because it's warm until it goes into energy-save mode. You can program the time-out period, so that's cool. It's also loud when printing, so make sure you aren't bothering anyone when working from home at night or in the morning.
The scanning software isn't very good. it comes with the PaperPort program as well as OmniPage - both programs I haven't used before. The scanning requires that you place the document in the auto-feeder tray and not on the glass itself. I don't like that because it can scan "crooked" if it doesn't feed perfectly. Also, note the following:
- The output tray deposits docs to the left, but loads to the right.
- The cords (USB, power, printer-cable, phone jack) are on the left side of the machine and NOT on the back - more convenient from my perspective.
- This machine is expensive - $2,200+ when adding the optional second paper tray and a toner cartridge to replace the half-life one it comes with.
- I don't require network printing, but it does support that feature (M20i unit only). I connect via the USB port. It saw it immediately when I hooked up out of the BOX on my XP-based computer.
- The Setup software seemed kind of "old" because MS XP (my OS) didn't have drivers for this hardware. The scanning software that it comes with isn't very good - PaperPort, I believe. It's just slow to run and not very user friendly. If you have another TWAIN program, plan on using it for the scanning function.
- The USB cable is only 6 feet long, so plan on buying a 12-footer to move tha machine far enough away from your work area.
This machine is large and also heavy - 50+ pounds. It's much larger machine than the typical HP or Brother multi-function product offering (FAX/Print/Copy) that you'd buy at COMPUSA. For the record, I purchased this from an authorized dealer - someone that "I KNEW" so I could get all over if I had a problem. Also, I had to buy a printer cart because this machine isn't made to sit on your desk - or even under it. If you have the two trays installed, you should know that it's very tall when sitting on a normal size SoHo desk, so keep that in mind.
Bottom line - it does what it was made for. It's a heavy duty, small business copier that also sends/receives FAXes and scans.

I do NOT recommend this machine for a network of any kind. I owned an 8170c which I believe was the first multi-function laser in this Canon league and although it had problems, it allowed me to do many tasks that the MF8450c can't do. This machine was provided to me by my insurance company after my 8170c was damaged in a fire. I can't get the MF8450c by-pass tray to work to save my life. I've called Canon tech support -- they blame it on software but it's NOT a software issue, that's just Canon's favorite excuse. My computer is new and all of my software is brand new and fully updated. The problem is the quirks of this machine. The scanner works nice but you actually have to go to the machine and change settings in order to get it to scan...every time you want to fax or print or scan, you have to change settings at the machine. The machine does not come with the software necessary to scan as did the 8170c. Fortunately, I had some great scanning software. I honestly thought that Canon would build a better product but I think this machine is downgrade from what I owned previously.

Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer (5250220-100) Review

Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer (5250220-100)

This is the second Konica-Minolta Magicolor color laser I have purchased. The first was a 2430DL which I purchased for my office. Basically the printers are the same except that the 2400W does not have ethernet connectivity, or an LED read-out (the printer messages from the 2400W pop up in a window on your computer screen), and the 2400W costs about $100 less.
Printing quality is the same on both units. Warm up time is quick, pages come out fast, and quality is good. Text quality is excellent. We also have a $10,000 color laser at work and the Konica units print text just as well and graphics almost as well.
Obviously I liked these printers enough to buy a second one, however I only give the product 4 stars because neither my 2430DL or the 2400W worked right out of the box and the accompanying "documentation" (if you can call it that) is a total joke.
Installation of my 2400W conked out with a message saying, and I quote: "Put Cyan toner". Huh? I opened up the unit and the magenta toner was on top. The rotate toner cartridge button refused to work and, as I said before, the manual is useless. I had to call tech support. Eventually we discovered that the magenta and cyan toner cartridges were switched. When switched back the unit performed perfectly.
Installation of my 2430DL appeared to work but the prints initially were faded and the toner rubbed off. Another call to tech support revealed that two clips that are supposed to hold the paper tightly against the fuser were not down all the way. When these were seated properly the unit functioned perfectly.
The installation instructions contain one page of sketches that look like they were made by a grade-schooler. Worthless. The thick "manual" consists of only one-quarter of one page of generic information which is repeated a bazillion times in a bazillion different languages, 4 per page. Curious, but utterly worthless.
On the plus side, Konica's tech support is excellent. The calls are toll-free, I only had to wait on hold a few minutes each time, and I got to speak to native English speakers who were very knowledgeable, polite, and helpful.
Here are a couple of other tidbits which may be of interest. The 2400W only connects via a USB cable, which is NOT included. Also, the printer uses 4 toner cartridges: black, cyan, magenta, and blue. The combined cost of theses cartridges is almost as much as the printer sells for at discount office stores. And... the toner cartridges which come with the printer are "starter" cartridges which are only one-third full, so get ready to spend some $$$ on replacement cartridges.
Power consumption on this unit is high compared to my previous home laser (an HP Laserjet 6L). When the Konica unit is switched on my room lights flicker constantly, even when not printing. So I turn the thing off after every use. Normally you can leave it on all the time and it will go into power saver mode by itself after about 20-30 minutes (by the way, you will have to get used to the loud clunk it makes when going to sleep - initially it will scare you because 20 minutes after making a print you have forgotten all about the printer, and, as I say it is a LOUD clunk!)
Both the 2430DL and the 2400W have a paper tray with a complete enclosure, which is very nice for keeping the paper clean and out of the way.
Duplexing is manual. You have to print one side then put the sheet(s) back into the printer upside down for the second side.
So, in summary: some installation headaches, great tech support, worthless documentation, but very nice printing, especially for the money.
